What's so surprising?
I am a public employee and have worked for other kinds of govermental organizations in the past. The salary information of every public employee is readily available to any member of the public.
All taxpayers apparently have a vested interest in knowing how much I make.
I'm almost 68 and working, and I know a lot of people my age and older who are working full time. There has been a shift in attitudes as people live longer, healthier lives and technology has made most jobs les physically taxing. If your mind and skills are still sharp, they need your job knowledge and they know it.
I work in an administrative position in a major hospital, and we don't see the employee illnesses I hear about from other workplaces.. I love my job and would really miss my coworkers. By the time you are nearing 70 you should know who you are and not be bothered by the occasional idiot.
Why would you want to quit working at 70 and then sit around for 20-30 more years. I'm close to 70 and I don't WANT to stop working. People are staying healthier longer and I see lots of happy 70+ people where I work. Lots of enjoy our jobs and do our travelling and goofing off on our well-earned vacation time.
I wouldn't know about overdraft fees, but my credit union (WSECU - same geographical area as BECU) charges me $5.00 to transfer money automatically from my savings account to my checking account. Before you start trying to earn money in a country of which you are not a citizen, check whether your visa allows you to work and if so, what are the restrictions.
