By making the public case to do away with Cs, this professor just lowered the value of a University of Arkansas law degree ... or at least for those students who take his class.   He's supposed to be developing lawyers.  At least among trial lawyers, here's some news for him ... half the lawyers lose their cases.  ...more

Barbie ditches her Malibu dream house

The best approach would be to have multiple dream houses ... because every girl's dream is a bit different.  How about a Manhattan Barbie Condo, a Mom Barbie Suburban Home, a Country Barbie Ranch/Farm, a Seaside Barbie Townhome, and Snow Barbie Ski Chalet?

50 and thrifty: Big birthday for big-box...

While its true that Kmart, Target, and Walmart opened their first stores in 1962 -- it would have been nice if the author would have given credit for Kresge and Kmart being the first. This one great company was the first, and for a long time largest, player in the space. It was Kmart that ultimately killed Woolworth, T...more

Sounds like my wife got this one right.   After a short experiment with allowances, we cut off because of the "entitlement" mentality.   We replaced with charts of various chores, each having a value, that are two children can either do or not do.  The more they work, the more they get paid.  If they don't work...more

Big bankruptcies: Lehman Brothers, Washi...

This is the conventional way of listing the "biggest" bankruptcies in that it relies on the "assets" of the debtor.  However, it "favors" listing financial entities who carry a large number of assets on their books by the nature of the business, but may not in fact have the largest impact in terms of jobs or economic i...more

15 overpriced things we hate paying for...

If buyers are willing to buy it, and the seller is maximizing its profit at that price (i.e., the price isn't so how as to reduce demand to such an extent to lose incremental profits from falling volume more than from reducing price), then the price isn't "too high."  Everyone complaining on this board is really saying...more

Incredibly stupid list -- this is the author's "my favorite music" list.   Where is any Motown?  Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Temptations, the Four Tops?   Where is any country?  Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson?   Where is any jazz or blues (the original ...more

10 things gas stations won't tell you -...

Debit cards from banks that charge fees for use are also a huge scam ...  if they don't charge for a check, why would they charge for a more secure, electronically processed (i.e., one without direct labor) transaction?   If you use a debit card today, why don't you switch to a credit card (with no transaction fee, n...more

10 things gas stations won't tell you -...

I thought No. 10 was going to address it, but missed the big point.   Ethanol is the biggest scam of all.  And the stations won't tell you (at least in Missouri and Kansas) when they are selling 100% gasoline or 90/10 or 85/15 ethanol.  They shift back and forth based on the price of the mix.  The problem is -- as no...more
