My mother never showed any sign of cyclical mood swings.  My girlfriend gets cramps and other sometimes very nasty physical symptoms.  But she never gets bitchy or impolite.  Her conscious decision to control her actions would have shown up as a negative on this study, no matter how she felt internally.
