Stephen, Are you saying that the Catholic Church has not proven itself wrong on thousands upon thousands of occasions and thus, having been wrong so often, we just assume it is wrong now?

Your house, We are born, we live and then we die.  Somewhere in between we need to realize that religion is not necessary.  Stretching our bodies and minds helps with that.

The real problem?  When instituted, SS retirement age was 65, average life expectancy was 61.  Thus SS was intentionally supposed to support less than half the population.  Current life expectancy?  78, thus the retirement age should be 82!
