Agreed, Jeez! Neither this short article nor the source indicated what, if any, action the school took prior to giving the child detention. So often, these situations can be corrected and diffused merely by a conversation, so I'd like to know if that was done before punishing the child.
You would lose that bet. :) To clarify, the child's grade was not affected. The notation on her report card was only in the additional section addressing conduct. Additionally, I never told students to "sit down and shut up." I don't care for that phrase. I am not a fan of medicating students, and believe in looki...more
Jeri43, Private schools have attendance standards, as well. I taught at a private school and had one little girl who was always late. Their family had a new baby as well, but there were others with new babies that managed to make it to school on time.
I agree with what others are saying about not punishing a child...more

I'm not judging, because I confess I have seen an episode of Honey Boo Boo, but how do you know so much about it and shows like Jersey Shore if you are so worried about long division and losing brain cells? :)
Just messing with you. :)
Maybe I missed something, but the article implies that this is a recent announcement regarding the change in the homework policy. If so, how can it already be "paying off?" Students here on the East Coast have only been in school a week or two, and I'm sure they have not participated in standardized testing yet for th...more
I agree with you, and would just like to add that I wish we the people had been as rabid about our need to know everything about Obama when he was a candidate. I still don't feel like we know very much about him.
