As a cashier, I don't ask for personal info unless specifically prompted.  However, some POS systems don't let you continue with a transaction until information is put in -- it's easy enough to fake a number, but frankly, I like having a paycheck, meager as it may well be.  So if my boss wants me to ask when it prompts...more
