Tom Bergeron struggled through Monday's...

Just because, as it turns out, his family wasn't in harm's way doesn't mean that he's not affected by it. He has friends in Boston, too, who might have been.  And all of the "what ifs" likely were running through his mind. I'm not from Massachusetts, and I don't have any loved ones in Boston, and this still appalls me....more

McDonald's dumps Chicken Selects from me...

McDonald's is still offering their salads.  I like the premium bacon ranch with grilled chicken.  I don't eat salad dressing, so it's very low-calorie for me.  I can get that and a fruit-and-yogurt parfait, and have a meal for fewer than 400 calories, with reasonable nutrition.

I don't remodel or redecorate for sale value.  I do it for ME.  I plan on living in the home for a good long while, or I'm not spending the money to make big changes.  If I spend $50,000 on a project, live there for 10 years, and then recoup 75 percent of the cost, that means it cost me $1,250 a year for the project.  ...more

Fresh-baked cookies don't sell houses

A GOOD realtor is worth his/her weight in gold.  Mine earned every penny and then some.  I had a buyer approach me, and I hadn't even listed the house, but I wanted someone to look out for my interests.  He did, and even negotiated for more money than I could have done on my own. He pulled in enough extra to cover his ...more

New wedding trend: The anti-invite

Where did people get the idea that the wedding must be an over-the-top extravaganza in which the wedding gown costs thousands of dollars, and a meal that isn't a multi-course, catered affair with a cocktail hour and star-studded live entertainment just is too plebian for words?  Why mortgage your entire life (or your p...more

Not "can't control them".  It's "won't".  Parents won't make the effort to control their children, or to make sure that they are fed when they're hungry and put to bed when they're tired.  Most temper tantrums can be solved by having kids on a reasonable schedule.  It might be inconvenient at times for the parent, but ...more
